Scribe Software has just announced additions to their MVP program and honored me with being invited and accepted into their MVP community.

Scribe Most Valuable Professionals represent the most experienced and skilled Scribe users from among over 800 partners, 10,000 customers and related software vendors. Scribe MVP’s are invited to join the program based on their skills, experience and contribution to the Scribe OpenMind community.

As a note, the current MVP’s were all invited/nominated by Scribe employees and the technical team. Don’t quote me on that but since they state in their “How to become an MVP” document that you are either “nominated by someone from Scribe, someone else, or yourself”, no one other than Scribe knew this was coming. Meaning the invites could only have come from the people within their company, which speaks to the expertise and involvement of these MVP’s with Scribe’s software and the team behind it. To see the full listing of Scribe MVP’s visit http://www.scribesoft.com/MVP.asp.

And if you are unfamiliar with Scribe’s services you should definitely check out their website. For data imports, data movement, and system integrations Scribe has a very robust platform and capability to connect and push/pull data from almost any data source. Their library of application adapters is growing and they have found a good niche in the Microsoft Dynamics arena.

My congratulations to all of the other Scribe MVP’s and thanks to Scribe and their team for this honor.

Smartlist is – without question – one of the best features of Dynamics GP. It is one of those small, nimble modules that really packs a punch when it comes to data retreival.

BUT, Smartlist Builder makes Smartlist even better!

What is Smartlist Builder? It is an add-on module for Dynamics GP 10 that let’s you create your own Smartlists from scratch.

If you need paycheck information cross-referenced with GL accounts, Smartlist Builder can do it. If you need project information, vendor payables and payroll information in one Smartlist, it can handle it. And, if you need information from your CRM system combined with sales or product information from GP, Smartlist Builder can handle it.

Smartlist Builder gives you the power to create your own Smartlists from data not only inside GP, but from ANY SQL or ODBC-compliant database. Imagine the possibilities inside your environment!

Another great aspect of Smartlist Builder is that you can publish the data immediately to anyone with acces to GP. Now in version 10 of GP, you can also create Excel-based Smartlist reports OUTSIDE of Dynamics GP. This will give others in your company access to up-to-the-minute data via the familiar interface of Microsoft Excel.

Smartlist Builder is one powerful module! Contact us today to find out all the benefits you can get!

It is true that this is a fairly old debate in the IT and accounting world. Should you purchase a “complete” product that does your front end or operations work or should you purchase separate products and integrate them? The general “school of thought” over the years has gone back and forth over the years. Different economic and technology drives have dictated different answers to the question. In the last few years, many technologies have arrived that allow multiple disparate systems to talk clearly to each other. Does that mean that we are in a swing of the pendelum that promotes separate systems that talk to each other? Maybe! Let’s see…

First, I must say that every situation is different and you should consult your IT and accounting departments (AND your friendly neighborhood, trusted, highly-knowledgable Dynamics GP partner!!) to determine what is best for you and your company.

If you are in an industry that has a tailor-made, efficient software package for your operations (manufacturing, project accounting, billing or something of the like), then maybe you should consider integrating that solution to a financial backend application like Dynamics GP. Integrating two appications in this manner can result in the company having two of the best applications possible to run their business. If they are integrated properly, the company then is in a prime position to use technology to stay ahead of the competition!

Many companies have operations software, CRM, CAD software or other applications that they use to run their business that work perfectly well for them. These system most often, however, do not do an adequate job for the financial aspect of the business – leaving the accounting department wishing for something else.

The other side of the coin has companies looking for one fully integrated, built-in solutions that accomplishes all of their needs in one nice, neat, tight package. Sounds great right? It can be. However, in most cases a single software program cannot be all things to all people – something has to fall short.
